Artist Statement
I have kept
a journal for many years. This practice has become a voice that continues
to shape the way I see my world. This daily exercise allows me to carve
out a space where I can find intrigue in the process of creating my art.
I have long been attracted to mixed media. It invites me to respond to my own
work in progress as it evolves while at the same time allowing the image
to be a thought, a whim, or just an accident.
Photography continues to be the visual root for me. It captures a moment in
time that makes me eager to collaborate with other mediums. The path my
journaling takes allows me the opportunity to recapture what might otherwise
be forgotten or cast aside.
Architecture anchors any iconic curiosity I might have at the time. Doorways,
arches, columns, and statuary become the movable objects that help to record
a savored moment. Interior spaces, on the other hand, become the rooms
I seek and my journals help to record my arrival and departure.
Currently I am using a combination of alternative and traditional photographic
methods. Each process has a nature of its own. I now have discovered a
new world in digital photography which I find gives me both the freedom
and the palette to marry one medium with another.
